hydrocats???

I just got a 30 foot hydrocat, it has a cabin. These were originally made in Florida and built for twin inboards however most owners converted them to outboards. Mine has twin 225 yamahas and above 3000 rpm tends to  violently swing from side to side on the bow.. I would call this action chimewalking.

We were thinking the problem had to do with the way the motors were mounted or? My motors are on Armstrong gill brackets and are 25 inch shafts mounted 8inches below the rear rubrail.

anyone have any ideas or anyone have a hydrocat who could tell me about their boat?

thanks

Re: hydrocats???

Those outboard Hydrocats were not coverted.  The factory made an outboard model which was nothing more than the same hull with an armstrong bracket and an outboard hanging off of it.  You need a 10' surf rod to work a fish in the stern area around the motors.

Your problem may one of 2 things.

You are not using enough trim to get the bows out of the water thus creating bow steer. The cabin models forward weight, with less stern weight than the I/O model, might require a more exaggerated bow trim.  As with all semi-displacemnet catamaran hulls... When in doubt - trim it out.

OR... this is a design flaw on the outboard models  which could ultimately be the reason why the company sold about 3 times and eventually died in Texas.

We just purchased a Hydrocat, it is in Florida and will be here in California in about 6 days. It has Volvo diesels and it rode beautiful on our seatrail.
Hopefully in our swelly ocean out here it will ride fine. I hope it will be a good boat as the company did not last very long. Debbie

It's also possible you might have too much trim up. ??? My old cat would do that. I thought though it was of only one motor.
