04-14-2006, 12:56 PM Harry Brosofsky Joined on 09-21-2005 Posts 29 Re: Jack Plates Butch, Bob's plates are nice, but they require an external pump unit.  CMC has a plate with a fully self contained hydraulic cylinder.  The installed weight is lower, but the material is thicker than Bob's plates.  Jim (Beast) and I have both done a lot of research on plates and both agree that in our cases, CMC is the best option.  Of course neither of use has laid out the cash yet I'm not sure the low water pickups are needed in our case, since we are looking more for offshore performance and the ability to trim 1-2 inches up at cruise as opposed to trying to run skinny water with teh motor jacked way up. Jim have done a lot more research than I have.  I'll just sit back and wait for you guys to do the guinea pig bit and let us know what your research has discovered. My primary interest is SCUBA diving ... am working on both my Dive Master cert. and a Six-Pack to help the local (Bradenton Beach) dive shop with their students.  Once I'm out in the Bay and the Gulf, I don't have to worry about dragging the lower unit's skeg or a prop through the muck.  But you brought up something I hadn't thought about:  trimming the engines up to improve cruising performance. Because the cost of the jack plates is $1500.  If you want to buy them for us we will be glad to test them.  I don't have $1500 laying around to run tests.  You can pony up the money and test them and tell US if they work or not. I got too busy and bought myself another expensive toy. I think I will get some this spring though. The logistics are a hassle for me as I don't live close to my boat.
