It's almost time up here in the Northeast to think about winterizing the boat. I have a 2000 WC 2660SC, new to me this year and have no experiencing winterizing it. I'm famiiliar with the basic priciples and have winterized my other boats in the past but dont know if there are any special precautions I should take with the Cat. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
You may find some info in the engine owner's manual. There is also stuff on the Web that tells you the basics and they are basic. Fog the carb, drain out all water, etc. The guys at the local West Marine or Boater's World can probably hook you up with everything you need.
In addition to all that, I also use compressed air to force antifreeze upward into my engine block. It is easy to create a contraption for it out of an antifreeze jug and some hose.
Regards,
Greg

You are wasting your time trying to force antifreeze up into an outboard.
They have small built in drain holes inside the bottom of the block .
You can put it in , but it will drain out.
It has a calibrated leak all the time. since you have an ocean full of water it does not matter .
the hole or holes are about 1/8 in .
WCC 330 TE , 250 YamFS, fully oper tower w yam controls, Command link,Garmin 3010C w Sat Wx,DSM depth and Furuno 582L. airmar thru hull TDs , B117s. Simrad AP 16 is excellent.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The days are getting shorter up here and the fish scarcer. Looking at the weather forecast for the next seven days pretty much seals my fate for the season. If I come across any helpful info while winterizing, I'll post it here.
Thanks
Chris

I am a world cat dealer in the Chicago area and the way we winterize the hull systems . they make a "fake lake " atachment for winerizing inboards (looks like a toilet plunger with a hose barb on it ) that we put on the water intake between the hulls then we attach a bilge pump ot a piece of clear 3/4" hose to a male fitting that gets attached to the fake lake . we put the bilge pump in a five gallon bucket filled with anti freeze attach the bilge pump to a battery and run all the systems in the boat untill anti freeze comes out them . then we run the fresh water system dry then add 5 gal of the potable anti freeze to the fresh water tank and again run al systems till the anti freeze comes out add a extra two gallons to the head and follow the engine manufacturers recomendations for the engines . GOOD LUCK AND SEE YOU NEXT SPRING!
Its all about having FUN!

Thanks HC,
I used a similar setup, although less sophisticated, (1/2 of a outboard flush earmuff connected to a length of garden hose and a funnel on the opposite end) on previous boats and it worked well, especially if you are doing the work alone. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try with your components. I pulled the boat last Saturday and hope to tackle the winterizing this weekend.
Stay warm
Chris

HC,
I was perusing through the local Boaters World last friday and I found the "fake lake" device you mentioned. Its manufactured by Moeller. It fits perfectly over the raw water scoops and the handle adjusts nicely to fit in between the sponsons. It costs a few bucks but its well worth it. I attached a 5-6 foot piece of garden hose to it with a funnel on the opposite end which I temporarily taped to my rod holders on the transom. Setting it up like this allowed me to run the pumps and fill the funnel with anti-freeze right from the cockpit. Each pump system took about 2 minutes to winterize.
Something to look out for- On my 2000 2660SC Worldcat, there are 2 livewell pumps (1 in each sponson) The port pump, which fills the livewell from the bottom, is driven off of the livewell switch on the dash and the second pump(starboard), which supplies water to the livewell from the top is run off the accesory switch on the dash. I'm not sure if all WC's are set up the same way but the second pump switch could easily be overlooked.
Hope this helps
Chris

just take it to the shop and let them do it. Its nice to have it
done right the first time and then you can do the following work in the
spring.
heres my reasoning, if its your first winter, you probably just got the
boat. if thats true then its nice to have the shop go thru and
make sure things are still looking OK. then in the spring, you
know where you stand and then you can take over the preventitive
maintenance. Maybe the shop would even let you hang around so
that you can see what to do next year.
